Helloooo! It’s been a while, but I’m so excited to be back and blogging. For those of you that don’t follow my Instagram, then you may not know that for the past 7 weeks I’ve been a camp counselor, and I’ve been unable to blog due to the (incredibly) spotty wifi. Because I’ve been at camp for so long, that means I’ve been eating some pretty unhealthy food…I’m talking fried everything…so when I came back I was so ready to jump back on the bandwagon of healthy eating.
Healthy eating to me is eating clean. ‘Eating Clean’ means a lot of different things to a variety of people, but for me it means no processed foods, no sugar (with the exception of natural sugar), and no dairy. I know it sounds cliche, but my body feels so much better when I eat this way!
As for what I do eat…I like to stick to very simple, and non-inflamatory, meals throughout the day. In the morning I’ll typically have fruit, avocado, very occasionally eggs, or really anything that’s easy for my body to digest but that has protein and other nutrients to kickstart my day. A lot of mornings I go to my favorite smoothie bar and treat myself to one of their antagonizingly delicious, smoothies and bowls. (as shown below)
For the rest of the day, I continue to eat heavy on vegetables, fruit, and protein. Now I know I said I don’t eat dairy, and that is very largely true, but occasionally I’m pressed for time, or really can’t be bothered making breakfast or a healthy snack, and that’s where Siggis’s yogurt come into play. These are basically greek yogurt, but they are strained much more thoroughly and therefore are a thicker consistency. My favorite thing about them though is that they are packed with protein, and they are very low in natural sugar. They’re really a win!
Now here are some of my tips for eating out and still eating clean. Don’t be afraid to ask for things to be removed or even make up your own meal! I know it might sound high maintenance, but it’s okay to care about what your’e putting in your body. For instance, I’m a sucker for an iced coffee, but I always ask for either coconut milk or almond milk instead of the regular 2%. Another example is the other day when I was out for lunch, I couldn’t find anything that was very ‘clean’, but I did see salmon and grilled vegetables on the menu. I just simply ordered those two things!
My favorite thing about this diet style is that you don’t have to (really) limit your food intake because the food is good for you. Now I’m not saying go eat until you are about to burst, but as long as you’re eating good food it’s difficult to overindulge.
